Bruce Robinson is 2021 THS Distinguished Alumni

The THS Board of Directors for the Alumni Association has named Bruce Robinson as the 2021 Distinguished Alumni. Bruce was a teacher, farmer, business man, and community activist. He joined the Oklahoma National Guard in 1957 and served six years, retiring as a Sergeant. Bruce graduated Tonkawa High School in 1958 and from Northern Oklahoma College in 1960. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education at University of Oklahoma in 1963 and began his teaching career at Star Spencer High School. He taught there until his return to Tonkawa to manage the Starlight Lanes Bowling Alley and farm his family’s “home place.” Bruce later purchased a water well business and changed the name of the company to Robinson Water Well Drilling, which he operated for 40 years. Bruce also functioned as a construction inspector for CGA Engineers, Inc., Tulsa; Chapman, Cottle, Gill and Associates, Inc., Ponca City; and Willis Engineering Consultants, Blackwell. He retired from drilling water wells and 42 years of farming in 2002.

County Retired Educators to meet Sept. 15

The Kay County Retired Educators Association will be having its first meeting of the current school year on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. It will be held at Ground Round in Ponca City in their designated meeting room area and lunch will be Dutch treat by ordering off the menu.

Pioneer Tech’s Forensics Academy

Students from Pioneer Tech’s Forensics Academy explored the field of Forensic Science and learned how to gather medical evidence. IOOF Cemetery needs donations

The IOOF Cemetery is in need of donations to continue operation of the cemetery, Garry Davis announced this week. Brent Bailey is caretaker. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 121 with checks made to the Tonkawa Cemetery for upkeep.

MJ&H Fabrication award

Pioneer Technology Center (PTC) was pleased to present Gary Harvey President and Owner of MJ&H Fabrication with the “Friends of Trade and Industry (T&I) Award this month. This recognition is awarded to individuals or organizations who have contributed significantly and provided exceptional support to Trade and Industrial Education programs and/or SkillsUSA in Oklahoma. Harvey was selected by members of the T&I division during the annual CareerTech Educator’s Conference at Oklahoma Summit. Traci Thorpe, Superintendent/CEO of Pioneer Tech presented the award at MJ&H this week. “Gary is always willing to provide work-based learning opportunities for welding students. With his support, PTC has hosted a “Weld to Work” competition that guarantees employment to the winning contestant. He is very deserving of the Friends of T&I Award and is an excellent partner with Pioneer Tech.” The Weld to Work competition has also included students from Meridian Tech, Autry Tech and Cowley College. Other companies who have participated in the initiative were Mertz, Ditch Witch, and Airgas.
