Tonkawa School Counselors celebrated during National School Counseling Week

National School Counseling Week 2022, “School Counseling: Better Together,” sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), will be celebrated from Feb. 7–11, 2022, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

2022 Tonkawa Chamber Membership Drive under way….

The Tonkawa Chamber of Commerce is organized for the purpose of advancing the commercial, industrial, agricultural, economic, educational, civic, and cultural interests of the Tonkawa community. The Chamber maintains a Program of Work consisting of twelve committees that address this purpose. As a member of the Tonkawa Chamber, you have earned the opportunity to make your voice heard on our committees of service, and help to make a difference in the future of the Chamber and Tonkawa. Sometimes we have a hard time letting go of grievances, hurts, and insults. Many spend their nights thinking about those who’ve hurt them, wronged them, and mistreated them. But bitterness can rob us of more than a night’s sleep. Hebrews 12:15 tells us, “See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no ‘root of bitterness’ springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled.” So what does the word “DEFILE” mean? The word used here in Hebrews means “to pollute,” “to contaminate,” “to stain.”

Northwestern Oklahoma State University will play host to the Spring Showcase event Saturday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m. in the Student Center in Alva.

21 Northwestern student teachers begin assignments in area schools

Students leave Northwestern Oklahoma State University with the knowledge to succeed in a particular field. In their final semester, 21 senior education students have received their student teaching assignments and have entered area schools to gain hands-on experience.

County Assessor takes tax exemptions

Due to Covid-19, the Kay County Assessor will no longer be going to each city to collect exemptions and assessment papers. This is to continue to keep residents safe and healthy. All applications and personal property renditions are due March 15, 2022. Below is a brief description of each application and information regarding personal property. All applications and assessments will be accepted in the Kay County Assessor’s office from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.

Pioneer Tech announces new class for Future Practical Nursing Students

Pre-requisites for the Practical Nursing (PN) program have been bundled together for a limited time for students to take advantage of ARPA tuition assistance. The classes include CNA Long Term Care, Anatomy & Physiology, and Medical Terminology. The entire course is 240 hours in length and will not only produce a CNA credential for students but also allow them to complete the classes needed to enroll in the Practical Nursing program. The mixture of in-person and online courses means students can complete classes at their own pace.
