Tonkawa Alumni group seeks Distinguished Alumni Award nominees

The Tonkawa Alumni Association is requesting nominations for the 2022 Distinguished Alumni Award. The recipients will be honored during Homecoming weekend.

Danny Blubaugh All-Star, Military Memorial showcase available on new website

The Danny Bluebaugh All-star Athletes and Military Memorial Showcases Committee of the Alumni Association is announcing the new website: htttp//www.tonkawaallstars-military.com . The committee hopes community members try it and pass it on. It is accessible on desk top, laptop or iPad and phone.

Valentines in the park

Thanks to 450 Tonkawa Elementary students that have created Valentines for the Heart In the Park fence. They are sending their greetings and valentine wishes for a Happy Day all month long. Also the Mid High Students have created Valentines that are being displayed in the Museum windows. This is a project between the Heart in the Park committee and the TES and MHS students. Be sure to notice them and thank the students and teachers for taking part in our community. Also be sure to notice in the Museum window the collection of recently found pictures of Presidents from George Washington to Dwight Eisenhower. This was found in the archives and was restored and is hanging in the window for all to view. (Irene Ackerson photo)

$500 free scholarship to Northwestern available to those who attend showcase

Northwestern Oklahoma State University will play host to the Spring Showcase event Saturday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m. in the Student Center in Alva.

Sometimes we have a hard time letting go of grievances, hurts, and insults. Many spend their nights thinking about those who’ve hurt them, wronged them, and mistreated them. But bitterness can rob us of more than a night’s sleep. Hebrews 12:15 tells us, “See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no ‘root of bitterness’ springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled.” So what does the word “DEFILE” mean? The word used here in Hebrews means “to pollute,” “to contaminate,” “to stain.”

2022 Tonkawa Chamber Membership Drive under way….

The Tonkawa Chamber of Commerce is organized for the purpose of advancing the commercial, industrial, agricultural, economic, educational, civic, and cultural interests of the Tonkawa community. The Chamber maintains a Program of Work consisting of twelve committees that address this purpose. Tonkawa School Counselors celebrated during National School Counseling Week

National School Counseling Week 2022, “School Counseling: Better Together,” sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), will be celebrated from Feb. 7–11, 2022, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

School principals are rehired

School will start Aug. 22, 2022, according to action taken at the monthly meeting of the Tonkawa Board of Education Monday night.

Bob Duke due at Gospel Jubilee Saturday

The Ponca City Gospel Jubilee featured guest will be Bob Duke Saturday, February 12th at 6:30 p.m. Bobby’s solo ministry takes He and his wife Sue primarily across the central plain’s states. In 2022, he will celebrate 62 years of bringing favorite gospel songs primarily to special Church events and Worship services. He was MC for the Precious Moments “Fountain of Angels” Show and performed with the Al Brumley Trio. His recorded album “Singing Easy” is distributed in 47 countries from Australia to Europe. Bobby is one of 10 children and comes to Oklahoma from Southeast Missouri. Audiences go back in time to radio days in part of his performances and Bobby also promises a laugh or two. Followed by the Ponca City Gospel Jubilee Band, refreshments, fun and great fellowship. See ya there!!!!
