Took a break from football Sunday afternoon to help out at our local museum. I figured it was about my turn since we have so many volunteers in our community that pitch in to make Tonkawa the special community it is.

Social Security Matters - Can Someone Work While Collecting Social Security Disability?

If a person is collecting Social Security disability benefits, can they, at any point, work at all? If they can, what is the maximum they can earn and still keep the disability benefit? I am asking because my husband is still young, but his injuries will not allow him to go back to the job he had prior to his injuries and surgeries. He does not just want to sit at home doing nothing! Signed: Concerned Wife Dear Concerned: Actually, the Social Security Administration (SSA) encourages those collecting SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) benefits to attempt to go back to work and they provide considerable leeway for them to do so. The monthly earnings limit for those collecting SSDI benefits in 2024 is $1,550 and as long as your husband earns less than the limit while working, his SSDI benefits will not be in jeopardy. Your husband should contact Social Security’s Ticket to Work program directly to protect his disability status and discuss returning to work while collecting SSDI benefits.

From the Laverne Leader-Tribune - 1959: The Gospel Lighthouse in Laverne was the setting for the wedding of Miss Helen Sheppard and Jim Terbush on Sunday, September 6 at 4 p.m. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sheppard and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Terbush.

Sharona, who has quickly stolen the heart of the Tonkawa Animal Control has still yet to be adopted. This beautiful girl, lovingly named Sharona by Tonkawa’s own incredible Animal Control Officer (TACO), is what most might consider a perfect dog, which is so hard to come by. Sharona is believed to be a lab mix of some kind and is about a year old. Despite being so young, Sharona is very calm. She would much rather curl up at your feet then bark, jump around, and act like a crazy puppy. In fact, Sharona is quite the shy little girl, but she does love attention and affection from anyone who will give it to her. She is great with kids, other dogs, and doesn’t even seem to mind cats. The only thing this dog is missing is a loving family to call her own.
