WASHINGTON — House and Senate leaders on Tuesday commemorated 13 U.S. servicemembers killed by a suicide bomber three years ago at Abbey Gate in Afghanistan, pausing for an hour the ongoing partisan blame-casting over the attack.

With the ending of summer and the fall months here, seasons are opening in the hunting world. The first of those seasons being those involving migratory birds. Namely Dove season is one that is incredibly popular in the area. Beginning September 1 and ending October 31 and reopening December 1 through 29, Dove season marks the beginning of hunting season for many in Oklahoma.

Hayes Brothers Band to perform Season Finale Full Moon Concert September 17

The “Hayes Brothers Band” will take the stage for the season finale Full Moon Concert, Tuesday, September 17 in Tonkawa Centennial Park, 301 East Grand in Tonkawa. Returning by popular demand, the group performs music from the 1950s through today including well-known pop, rock and country classics that are audience favorites. Band members performing are Clark Hayes on guitar and lead vocal; Kent Hayes on drums and lead vocal; Keke Johnson on Hammond organ, guitar and vocal; Stan Villines on bass and backup vocal; Steve Scott on keyboards, synthesizers and vocal; Jace Sober on guitar and vocal; Mark Love on saxophone.

Fair week has arrived in Kay County

The week of the Kay County Free Fair officially begun! The fair board has prepared a number of exciting events throughout the week and WEEE Entertainment has brought their carnival to the fairgrounds. There are food trucks galore and they are sure to have the fair food that you have been craving for the past year.

Hello Tonkawa! So begins another week of school for our Tonkawa Buccaneers! The Bucs kicked off the football season with a sizable win over Newkirk. There is a football game this week at Fairview! Softball has games against Blackwell (9/9), Fairview (9/10), and Glencoe (9/12) this week. There will also be a cross country meet at Hennessey on Saturday. Academic bowl is beginning to meet, so if you would like to join, make sure to start attending the practices! In addition to the many school activities going on, the Kay County Free Fair is this week. Head over to Blackwell for some food, rides, and art!
