The Tonkawa Chamber of Commerce are taking donations for the 4th of July fireworks Display. There are donation cans at the following locations – Oxford Tire, Venture Foods, Hammerheads, Jiffy Trip, Simple Simon’s, Tonkawa Medical Dispensary, Quiddy’s, Mary’s Grill, Pilot, Red Pipe, Inc., and TA Truck Stop. You can drop off a donation at the Chamber Office Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m-4:00 p.m.

Cinithia Rodriguez was voted as the 2022-2023 Tonkawa Elementary School Teacher of the year by teachers and staff. Ms. Rodriguez is completing her sixth year at TES.

Teacher Resigns; Two More Hired By Board Longtime Tonkawa High school speech and English teacher Mrs. Ruth Hamburg submitted her resignation and two new teachers for school system were hired at a special breakfast meeting of the board of education Friday morning at Tonkawa Grill. Mrs. Hamburg will retire and has taught 30 years, 19 at Tonkawa.

NOC Tonkawa Soccer moving to the Enid Advance Soccer Complex

The Northern Oklahoma College Board of Regents unanimously voted to move the men’s and women’s soccer programs to NOC Enid from NOC Tonkawa Wednesday afternoon at the May meeting.

Glass Fusing Class is due

Artist Audrey Schmitz and Art Center of Tonkawa (ACT) are offering Glass and a Glass!, an interactive glass fusing class for adults on Thursday, June 8 at 6:30 pm at ACT, 202 E. Grand. Participants will create an original “Meadow Flower” suncatcher as part of the $25 registration fee. During the class, participants will also learn about the art of fused glass while enjoying complementary drinks. Along with a wide array of colorful art glass, other materials such as frit, wire, dots, millefiori and stringer will be available for use. Additional “Meadow Flower” suncatchers may be made and paid for during the event and there is also an option to “upgrade” and create a one-of-a-kind nightlight as well. Glass and a Glass is for ages 18 & up and no prior experience with glass is required to create original art, have fun and get your sparkle on!

The Tonkawa Fire Department responded to 16 ambulance calls transporting 10, and 1 fire calls during the past week. People who are planning on burning in our jurisdiction in the county please call the fire department at (580) 628-3251 and advise us where and when you are planning to burn to deter unnecessary call outs. THE FIRE DEPT WILL NO LONGER BE FILLING RESIDENTIAL SWIMMING POOLS.

NOC Regents extend Dr. Clark Harris contract

The Northern Oklahoma College Board of Regents extended President Dr. Clark Harris’ contract for one-year at Wednesday’s regent meeting in Enid. Dr. Harris completes his second full year at NOC in June.
