Northern students earn Reach Higher scholarships

Twenty-four Northern Oklahoma College students received scholarships through Reach Higher, an initiative led by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to assist adult learners in finishing a college degree. According to Kathleen Swain, Coordinator of Student Academic Success Services, a number of NOC degree programs have been approved for the Reach Higher Direct Complete program, which are programs that align with the 100 most critical jobs in Oklahoma. Reach Higher has also recently been awarded funds to distribute to institutions to use for adult learner scholarships, as long as the students meet all of the requirements. To qualify, students must be 25 years old or older and be within 30 hours of completing their degree.

Cheer, firemen to have fireworks stand

The Tonkawa Fire department association and THS cheer will be selling fireworks beginning on Wednesday, June 28 at 3 pm on Esch Corner (the corner of North Ave and Blackwell main). Each year, TFD sells fireworks to raise money for fire prevention and for community projects. This year, a portion of the earnings will go to THS cheer to help raise money for cheer competition! Get the most bang for your buck and support a great cause at the same time! Open every weekday afternoon, Saturday 10-9, Sunday 1-9 and all day the 4th. The Tonkawa Fire Department responded to 12 ambulance calls transporting 09, and 2 fire calls during the past week. People who are planning on burning in our jurisdiction in the county please call the fire department at (580) 628-3251 and advise us where and when you are planning to burn to deter unnecessary call outs.
