The City of Tonkawa will experience a city-wide scheduled power outage on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 10:00 pm. Power is scheduled to be restored by Friday morning, April 26, 2024, at 7:00 am. Electric contractors do not expect the duration of the power outage to exceed nine-hours. Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions. The purpose of the scheduled power outage is to allow Tonkawa Electric Department crewmen to work with contractors to make significant upgrades and maintenance operations to the city’s power system. While the safety of the electric crewmen is a primary reason for the power outage, it is also due to the logistic constraints of an “active” power grid. There is a possibility the power outage may be delayed or cancelled due to dangerous weather observations. Utility customers will be updated to any changes. The city understands that this may inconvenience many Tonkawa Utility customers. However, there is no other way to achieve the objectives of this process without a scheduled power outage of this magnitude. Citizens are asked to take the necessary precautions to plan for the period without power. This may include relocating or ice-packing meats and spoilable foods, alternate sleep aid device options, backup oxygen systems, implementations of available generator power, alternate use of internet services, climate control expectations, etc.It is important to note that, during the power outage, Bluepeak and/or other internet services may be interrupted. Please make plans to utilize other communication options such as cell phones during the outage. All emergency services (Police, Fire, Ambulance, E911) will be operational during the power outage. If you need assistance with making preparations, please contact a member of the Tonkawa Utility Staff at: (580) 628-2508 during normal business hours (Monday - Friday, 8 am-5 pm).
