Tonkawa Art Center will host Pop-up shops Saturday

The Art Center of Tonkawa, located at 200-202 East Grand, is happy to announce Christmas Pop-Up Shops on Saturday, December 4, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Vendors participating this time include Gloria Johnson with her famous baked goods and salsa, Katie Cravens will be selling cookies and Christmas ornaments, Stacie Danks – Farmasi makeup, Sheri Denson – Paparazzi Jewelry, Jenni Potter – Crafts, woodwork, Christmas décor, etc., Ryan Potter with laser/wood crafts, and Christina Raven of Raven’s Warehouse with holiday novelties, customizable gifts and tee shirts. Maile Rickard sells the wonderful Tupperware products and Jeanna Walker will have nail wraps and Farmasi makeup. Sue Mercer will have her beautiful handcrafts, including crochet and beaded jewelry items. Lyn Mollet will be selling stainless steel tumblers and great Pampered Chef items. Audrey Schmitz and Ken Crowder – Ceramics, fused glass, annual Tonkawa ornaments, photography, Oklahoma made wood items and homemade soaps, and Summer Walker – Fiber arts – wall hangings, gifts, etc. Jillian McMillen will feature Usborne books and Kevin Ditmore and Yasmin Williams will have children and adult Bibles, gift items and handmade baby quilts.

Billings chamber lists holidays; parade Dec. 18th

The Billings Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Christmas parade on Saturday, December 18th at 11:00 a.m. and Santa will be there to greet the kids. Parade participants will each receive a $dollar. Prizes will be awarded for best decorated float and category winners. For more information, contact Lance Stoll at 580.977.7953.

Candidate filing begins Monday for school board

Candidates for the Board of Education in Blackwell, Kildare, Newkirk, Peckham, Ponca City, Tonkawa, and The Pioneer Technology Center in Kay County school districts will file Declarations of Candidacy beginning 8:00 a.m. Monday December 6, 2021.

Bucs greeted with fireworks

Tonkawa Education Foundation awards grants

The grants for the 2021/2022 school year were recently awarded by the Tonkawa Education Foundation. These grants, applied for by Tonkawa public school educators including the elementary, middle and high schools, were funded by TEF for an amount totaling more than $7,400.00. The Tonkawa Education Foundation was established in 2000 to support the students of the Tonkawa Public Schools by awarding grants for items or projects that are not supported by public allocations. Individual donations, memorials and business campaigns continue to help grow the balance of this endowment fund. The TEF board is formed by volunteers from the Tonkawa community. Current trustees include Lori Evans, President; Janine Roth, Secretary; Sandra Caughlin, Treasurer; Irene Ackerson, Braden Lampe, Beverly Smith, Ricardo Soto, and Lori Simpson, ExOfficio member.

This weeks Buc Blab is a little bitter sweet for this past week. We had a great Thanksgiving week with a full week off and got to watch our Buccaneers take on the Morrison Wildcats Friday night on our last game on home turf. Students are well rested and ready to get back to their studies after a well deserved break. Starting off with the sad and bitter part, our 2021 Football Season has ended with a 10 and 3 season. The Bucs took on the Wildcats hoping to advance into another week of playoffs but fell short against the Wildcats 12-0. We are super proud of the Football Team at what they’ve accomplished this year, it was one amazing team. Words from other players and coaches say that there isn’t a better, harder hitting, and well rounded team than the Tonkawa Buccaneers. Great leadership, athletes, and coaching staff make up an amazing team and we sure had one this year. We are going to miss our seniors out on the field as they hang up their jerseys one last time. Moving onto the sport basketball… The Bucs start out their season against the Newkirk Tigers home at 6:00. Undetermined if there will be JV playing and if there is it will start at 4:30, all following games will be after. They also play the Perry Maroons at Perry’s new gymnasium next to the Perry Grade school. Looks like two strong groups of basketball teams will be working hard this year to achieve some trophies, plaques, and maybe even a gold ball this year.
