Tonkawa junior varsity footballers improved to 2-0 on the season with a 22-6 win over Newkirk Monday night.They will play again next Monday, Oct. 17, at Morrison after the 7-8 game at 6 p.m. Lucas Keith scored the first TD, a 7 yard run midway through the first period. Quarterback Westyn Freeman passed to Armando Franco for the two point conversion.The JV Bucs went up 16-0 before halftime with a 15 yard TD toss from Freeman to Eli Pappan. Keith ran the conversion.Newkirk closed the gap in the fourth quarter to 6-16 but Keith ran in a touchdown from 28 yards out with 40 seconds left in the game for the final 22-6 advantage.Keith finished the night with 82 yards on 12 carries. Freeman had 34 yards on 10 carries. Freeman was 4-11 passing for 98 yards to Pappan (3-90) and Franco (1-8). The Tigers managed but four first downs all evening. The Bucs had ten. Keith also led the Buc defense with 10 tackles. Pappan had 7 and Clayton Lopeman, Brett Shepherd and Jax Thompson four each. Franco had an interception. Lopeman got two fumble recoveries and Gavin Ward had one.
