Tonkawa’s football Bucs left little to doubt early on as they coasted to a 40-3 win over outmanned Class 2A Newkirk Thursday night.While the Buc defense allowed the Tigers only two first downs the entire first half, the Buc offense was equally as impressive.By halftime, it was over with the hometown heroes on top 34-0.Kansas move-in Roman Chandler got the Bucs into scoring position with a 41 yard punt return to the Tiger 14. On second down, quarterback Ryan Morgan hit tight end Noah Campbell wide open in the middle of the endzone with the scoring toss.Brendan Ochoa kicked the first of four PAT kicks. On top of that the senior kicker added three punts with a 42.3 yard average.Chandler scored the second TD set up by a Jake Morgan rush of the punter and a holding penalty against the Tigers.Chandler ran 18 yards to paydirt and with just 49 seconds left in the first period, the Bucs were up 14-0. The junior running back also ran the other seven yards in the 25-year, 2-play drive.Early in the second quarter, Tonkawa drove 51 yards in just three plays with Luke Shepherd scoring from 18 yards out. Quarterback Ryan Morgan bootlegged for seven yards in the drive.Tonkawa went up 27-0 when defensive lineman Dante Mendoza caused and covered a Newkirk fumble at the 49. Six plays later Peyton Keith scored on a six yard run. The PAT kick failed. In the drive Keith also had a 14 yard run, Jaidyn Guzman a 12 yard run and Morgan hit wide receiver Jake Randall for 17 yards.With little time before halftime, Tonkawa got the ball at their own 28. On first down, Chandler broke loose for a 63 yard run setting up a one yard plunge by Guzman for the TD with just 24 ticks before intermission. Chandler finished with 109 yards on 12 carries.The lone bright spots for the Tigers came on a 35 yard field goal with 8:12 left in the third period. The drive covered 15 yards in six plays. James Newman covered a second team Tonkawa offense fumble late in the game.Tonkawa followed Newkirk’s third quarter surge with an interception by Ryan Morgan. He ran it back 24 yards to the Tiger 16.
