NEWKIRK -- The Tonkawa boys basketball team won the Class 2A District Tournament Friday with a 55-37 victory over Newkirk.The Buccaneers will move to an Area I Regional Tournament at Watonga. The Bucs' first round opponent was to be the winner of a game between Class 2A No. 2 ranked Hooker and Watonga. The Regional is scheduled to be played on 7:30 p.m. Thursday, but weather considerations may make rescheduling necessary.Newkirk also advances in the double-elimination playoffs. The Tigers were to play the loser of Hooker-Watonga at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Watonga.In girls District tournament action, Newkirk defeated Tonkawa 43-28. Newkirk advanced to the Regional in Watonga to play Thursday the winner of Friday's Watonga-Hooker game. Tonkawa's girls were set to play the Watonga-Hooker loser Thursday.
