The Bucs got an important district win against OK Union. Those who travelled the two hours to see the Buccaneers in person (including our outstanding Cheer squad and our spirited Band) got their money’s worth seeing a tough fought contest that went down to the last two series ending with the Bucs stopping a motivated Cougar team at midfield to seal the victory. Both teams gave a good account of themselves in an exciting game in which both teams were missing key players. The Bucs were without the services of three or four players including quarterback Cayden Duvall who hopefully will be back for the Pawnee game on Senior Night this Friday. In the first half Tonkawa jumped out to a 12-0 lead behind rushing touchdown from back up quarterback Westyn Freeman and Kace Tautfest. Coming out to start the 2nd half still holding a two touchdown lead the fired up Cougars scored and converted their two point try and the game was on. Both defenses tightened but the Bucs managed to score again on a nice Freeman to Clayton Lopeman pass and senior Rush Brown caught the important two point conversion giving them back a 12 point lead. But OK Union wasn’t going away scoring on a daring 4th and short pass for a touchdown, cutting the lead back to four. The Buccaneers were up to the challenge going on a patented time killing drive. Not scoring but forcing the Cougars to burn all 3 of their timeouts and leaving them with a long field to go for the lead. Good thing, because they reached midfield with some good passing, but the hard fighting Buccaneers won the day and stopped the Cougars in their tracks sealing the win.To add to the excitement the radio went dead for the game winning defensive stop leaving the listeners of the radio coverage in the dark until it came back on with the report of a Buccaneer win.Special thanks to all who made the drive to support the team and come out Friday for Senior night. Seniors of Fall activities will be recognized with their parents. Let me add the Buccaneers are 5-3 overall and 4-1 in district play. The next two District games will determine if and where the Bucs ...
