On their next offensive possession, LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier returned to the game from injury and threw a 40-yard touchdown.The sequence shifted the momentum of the game, giving the Tigers a seven-point lead heading into halftime.Oklahoma was shutout in the second half and had no answers for Nussmeier and the Tigers’ offense in a 37-17 loss.The Sooners appeared to have LSU in tough spot with 7:22 remaining in the second quarter, coming off their first offensive touchdown of the game.Their defense had just delivered two devastating hits on Nussmeier — one that was recovered for a touchdown by R. Mason Thomas and another, delivered by Thomas, that had the LSU quarterback in obvious pain.Nussmeier left the game and sat at the rest of the drive. Jackson Arnold threw a deep ball to J.J. Hester on the opening play for a 50-yard gain and then kept it himself on a 27-yard run to set up Xavier Robinson’s short touchdown run.Arnold had 75 yards rushing against the Tigers on 17 carries. When adjusting for four sacks, Arnold had 13 carries for 98 (7.5 yards per carry).However, that ended up being the only thing the Sooners were able to find success with on offense.They passed for just 110 yards and Arnold completed 14 of 21 passes with no touchdowns and no turnovers.Oklahoma had a chance to cut into the Tigers’ sevenpoint halftime lead with the ball coming out of halftime.
