In the final game of six games road stand, the Mavericks shut out Eastern 3-0.
Northern took control of the game early in the second half as Matthew Cuellar dribbled to the end line in the box and rainbowed a defender before being taken down for a penalty. George Robinson stepped to the penalty spot and calmly finished the chance putting the Mavericks ahead 1-0.
Moments later Shukri Farias broke in behind the Eastern defense and crossed the ball to Robinson, who hit the ball first time into the side netting of the far post to put the Mavs up 2-0. Robinson put the game away with his third goal off an assist from Gavin Reno. Ruben Flores and Cole Weiberg combined in goal to pick up the shut out.
“It was a big win for us,” said coach Michael Duroy. “I’m really happy for the guys. Obviously George (Robinson) was great with the goals, but Harry Yorke may have been the best player on the field today. It’s awesome to finally have him out there. It was our first clean sheet of the year. Our back line and midfield did a really nice job of limiting their shots and Ruben (Flores) and Cole (Weiberg) were good in goal.”
NOC outshot Eastern 12-4.
