Northern Oklahoma College Soccer braved the weather and NEO on Friday in Tonkawa for men’s and women’s games.
The men improved to 5-0 with a win over NEO while the women lost their second in a row 2-1.
Mavs 4, NEO 0
NOC started fast as Damorney Hutchinson and Jesus Aleman scored early goals as the Mavs built an early lead.
Shukri Farias and Josh Bell finished off the scoring while Spencer Braswell collected his fourth shut-out.
“The boys really put on a show for the first twenty minutes of this game,” said coach Michael DuRoy. “I give assistant coach Assane Ndiaye a lot of credit for our fast starts. He is responsible for warming up the guys and he has done a great job all year. It was clear early that we were going to win this game so we were able to get some guys in early in the first half that haven’t played that much this year. I was really happy to see those guys get their chance.”
NEO 2, Lady Mavs 1
The Mavs dropped their second game in a row on a cold, rainy afternoon in Tonkawa 2-1 to NEO.
Milica Bulatovic scored the women’s only goal in the second half while NEO scored a goal in each half.
“Are we the team that started 4-0 and played a one goal game with the sixth ranked team in the nation or the team that just lost to NEO?” “The truth is we are both,” said coach Michael DuRoy. We are not a great team. We are a team that can be good if we play with great effort. Today we didn’t always do that. The girls are tired and I get it. We have played four games in a week, and are coming off a really tough game where we had to give maximum effort. The schedule is what it is and its not going to change. We have to find a way to deal with it.”
“Despite it not being our best effort, we still could have won the game,” he added. “We missed some chances today that we normally finish, and I give credit to the NEO goalkeeper for making some nice saves. Sometimes in soccer it’s just not your day, and today was one of those days. I’m looking forward to the next game. I know the team will respond.”
