EL RENO, Oklahoma -- The 3rd ranked Northern Oklahoma College Mavericks swept Redlands in the conference opener on Thursday.
NOC (18-4) won Game 1 in extra innings 14-11 and the nightcap 8-3. Mavs head coach Ryan Bay was pleased with the opening series sweep.
“It was a couple of hard fought wins but nothing we didn’ expect,” Bay said. “We play in the toughest region in the country Every series will be a battle the rest of the way.”
In Game 1, the Mavs broke a 10-10 tie with four runs in the ninth to outlast Redlands 14-11.
Levi Haueter led a 12 hit attack with three hits and Sam Shank had two hits and three runs batted in. Josh Bumgarner and Barrett Rose had two hits each, Hayden Priest had a home run and two runs batted in for the Mavs.
Carter Hines earned the win out of the Mavs’ bullpen allowing one run over two innings and striking out three.
In Game 2, Blake Hubbard was the winning pitcher allowing one run on one hit in five innings of work.
Geovanni Blackshaw homered and singled while Rose and Bryant Bailey added two hits each.
The Mavs host Redlands at 1 p.m. Saturday in Tonkawa.
