East Rutherford, N.J. — The Buffalo Bills defense did the unthinkable at the end of the second quarter against the New York Jets on Monday Night Football.The Bills let Rodgers, one of the greatest Hail Mary throwers in NFL history, heave up a desperation moonball to the end zone as time expired in the first half. And somehow – some way – Jets receiver Allan Lazard came down with it for a touchdown.What should have been a 10-point halftime lead shrunk to three points. The Bills defense had to respond – and that’s precisely what it did.“One thing about us is we line up and play the next play,” Bills safety Damar Hamlin said after the game. “If something bad happens, we treat it like a fluke. We always see opportunity in that next play and that’s one of our strengths.”The Jets had the ball four times in the second half against the Bills and managed just three points. Two trips into the red zone resulted in zero points, and Buffalo found a way to eke out a 23-20 AFC East road victory to move to 4-2 on the season.Four critical defensive plays allowed the Bills to hold on for the win. Safety Taylor Rapp and cornerback Taron Johnson – who both returned from injury this week - made all of them.The game was tied at 20 points late in the third quarter when the Jets appeared set to take the lead on a pass from Aaron Rodgers to Garrett Wilson, who already had one touchdown. Rodgers found Wilson, who was open for a moment. The ball was in his hands when Hamlin made contact and wrapped his arms around Wilson.Then safety Taylor Rapp came flying in with a huge hit to dislodge the ball. The pass breakup forced the Jets into a field goal try, and veteran Greg Zuerlein missed. Rapp also saved a touchdown on the drive when Jets running back Breece Hall got free down the left sideline and broke off a 42-yard run. Rapp was the last line of defense, and he was able to tackle Hall to the ground.The Bills scored their only points of the second half on a 22-yard field goal from Tyler Bass.
