final season game
Tonkawa’s football Bucs can play the spoilers role this week when they close out the 2019 football season at Hominy.
Kick off is at 7 p.m. Friday at Buck Stadium in Hominy.
The Bucs will not make the playoffs for the first time since 2014 and 2011. It will only be the third time in the past 26 years Tonkawa has not made the playoffs.
But the Bucs can still make some noise in District A-5.
While Tonkawa is relegated to sixth currently in the league, they can move up to five with a win at Hominy Friday night and keep them from making the playoffs. If Hominy wins, then they go to the playoffs instead of Morrison Hominy, Morrison and Barnsdall all have three losses in league play. The Panthers and Wildcats are done with district play.
Unbeaten, untied Pawhuska and Pawnee play for the league title this Friday night at Huskie stadium.
Buc Head Coach Mike Kirtley says Hominy is “freaking good. They’re very athletic, big and physical.”
Offensively, the Bucks will be in a spread wing T formation. Defensively, they run multiple formations but primarily a 3-4 alignment.
“We’re playing for Buc pride this week,” Kirtley said. “We just want the kids to go out and have fun and play to their potential.”
Tonkawa is 5-4 for the season so far. Hominy is 6-3.
The Bucks have wins over Morrison 30-12, Woodland 48-6, Drumright 54-0, Ponca City JV 49-28, Cleveland 20-19 and Hulbert 42-6. They’ve lost to Pawhuska 12-46, Pawnee 14-36 and Barnsdall 33-36.
