Tonkawa opens the much-anticipated 2022 season at Newkirk Friday, Sept. 2.Kick off is at 7 p.m. The Tigers lost to the Bucs 3-40 a year ago. “They’re rock solid this year, though,” Head Buc Coach Mike Kirtley said while preparing for the season opener Sunday afternoon.“Their quarterback is good and can put it on a dime. “We’ll have to play great to be successful this year,” he said.The Tigers will be in a spread offense and multiple defenses. Eddy Scott is beginning his third year at Newkirk and is cautiously optimistic after a 1-9 season in 2021.The Bucs face three straight Class 2A foes before getting into Class A, District 5 action.
