To have one goal-line stand in a ball-game is quite a feat. But to have four. Well, that’s epic!Tonkawa posted an 8-0 win over Perry Friday night in what Head Coach Mike Kirtley termed “a grind -- for our fans, parents, players and coaches.” But it wasn’t easy!An anemic first half offense and bad field position helped the cause. The Buc defense stopped Perry drives at the Tonkawa 11, 4 and 13 in the first half and on the 8 in the third quarter. In the first half, the Bucs could muster five net yards rushing, no pass completions, no first downs. But it was no wonder. Tonkawa started their 12 possessions at their own 11, 13, 17, 22, 1, 18, 4, 20, 13, 24, 1 and 8 yard lines.“I’m just glad we had enough juice left to finish with the win,” Kirtley said. The lone touchdown came on a 76 yard drive in 8 plays and included two key pass completions from senior quarterback Ryan Morgan to sophomore receiver Cayden Duvall for 20 and 34 yards.Morgan had a 10 yard run and ran for the touchdown from 12 yards out with 1:05 left in the third quarter. Morgan then ran for the two point conversion. With eight minutes left in the game, Perry made one last try at a TD run, moving all the way from their own 38 to the Buc 8 yard line. On fourth and three from the Buc 8, Barrick Wano and Morgan dropped the Maroon running back for no gain and Tonkawa was back on offense with 5:32 left in the game.Tonkawa would run out the clock on a 10-play drive with four first downs. Big plays in the drive included a 32 yard run by Westyn Freeman and 8 yard runs by Morgan and Clayton Lopeman. Two critical offsides by Perry defenders on quick counts by the Bucs resulted in one first down and led to another when Tonkawa was facing third and six. Perry was flagged for offsides in both instances.Dalton Pierce and Lucas Keith led defenders with 10 tackles each. Peyten Keith had 9 and Dom Grein 8.Morgan and Grein each had pass tips and Morgan and Peyten Keith had near interceptions. Grein was rushing the passer all night.Grein covered a fumble caused by Hayden Grell.Morgan led in rushing with 52 yards on 16 carries. He finished 6 of 14 passing for 109 yards. In on ...
