Tonkawa’s football Bucs came from behind twice Friday night to post a 46-31 win over Kay County rival Newkirk. Senior quarterback Ryan Morgan threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more, plus converted five of six two-point PAT’s, four passing and one running.Morgan finished the night 10 of 18 passing for 225 yards. Clayton Lopeman scored two long touchdowns -- one an 89 yard kickoff return in which he broke numerous tackles -- and another 85 yard pass from Morgan which was tipped by Tiger defenders into Lopeman’s awaiting arms.Newkirk led early in this ball game scoring on their first possession, a 45 yard pass play. That would be the final pass the Tigers would complete all night, failing on 10 more. Two were intercepted -- by Loudyn Alexander and Matthew Gottman. Four others were tipped away by Gottman (2), Morgan and Lopeman.A Morgan to Cayden Duvall combination from 45 yards out led to the first Buc TD, the second play in an 80 yard drive, assisted by a 15 yard Newkirk penalty and Peyten Keith picked up 20 yards on the ground. Morgan then hit Westyn Freeman for the two point conversion.Tonkawa went up 16-7 on a 62-yard, 6-play drive capped by an 8 yard TD run by Morgan. The big play in the drive was a 63 yard pass from Morgan to Freeman. Peyten Keith caught the two point conversion pass from Morgan.Newkirk narrowed the gap to 14-16 with a 58 yard drive in 11 plays.But on the ensuing kickoff, Lopeman returned it all 89 yards for the score to put the Bucs up 22-14. The PAT attempted run failed.Tonkawa got the ball right back after the ensuing kickoff by Brett Shepherd when the onside was covered by Barrick Wano at the Tiger 46.Unable to get untracked, (Morgan had left the game with an ankle injury), Duvall punted 51 yards to pin the Tigers deep, leading to this: Tonkawa went up 30-14 on a 21 yard drive in 3 plays set up by Loudyn Alexander’s interception. The score came on an 8 yard pass from morgan, who had returned to action, to Duvall. Morgan ran the two point conversion.Later in the second quarter, a Morgan to Duvall pass covering 62 yards and a TD was called back for holding.It was 30-14 at halftime.
