A year ago, Newkirk spoiled what would have been an unblemished 15-0 record with a 14-0 upset of the Tonkawa
Bucs.

Tonkawa raced to a 21-0 halftime lead and never looked back, adding three more touchdowns in the third period for a
41-0 victory in a Kay County
Bedlam rivalry that has been played continuously since
1936.
Tristan Burdick scored three of the six Tonkawa TD’s, going three, four and 15 yards in his scoring efforts. He rushed for 100 yards on 18 carries.
He also did it with his arm. Burdick was a sizzling 9 of 12 passing for 151 yards. The one passing TD came on a 47 yard pass from Burdick to wide-out Parker Miller, who finished the night with four catches for 110 yards.
The other two touchdowns came on runs by Kai Day, a 35 yard run late in the first half he fumbled into endzone that was covered by Cody Morgan for the score and a 24 yard run late in the third quarter.
The sophomore running back rushed for 134 yards on just 14 carries.
For the second week in a row, Tonkawa’s defense was stellar. The Bucs allowed Newkirk but 22 net yards rushing and 45 passing. The Tigers managed only three first downs the entire game.
Tonkawa’s effort was led by Peyton Day and Noah Campbell with 11 tackles each and a pass rush led by Joby Jauregui that kept Newkirk’s offense off-balance most of the night.
Tonkawa’s first TD came on a 78 yard march in 12 plays and included runs by Burdick of 17 yards and Kai day of 11. In additon, Burdick hit Kai Day for a 17 yard pass, Peyton Day for 3 yards and Jake Randall for 8.
The Bucs went up 14-0 on the seventh play of a 57 yard drive with a Burdick four yard run. In the drive, Burdick had runs of 11 and 15 yards and Kai Day for 11. Burdick also hit Parker Miller on a 21 yard pass play.
The Bucs got to 21-0 with a 35 yard run by Kai Day, who fumbled into the endzone and Cody Morgan covered for the touchdown. That drive covered 56 yards and just took three plays.
Carson Robinson kicked extra points after the first three scores.
