After losing a close call to Hominy last Friday night, the Tonkawa Bucs are in a “do or die” situation if they still want to host a playoff game. They’ve made the playoffs, but now it’s a matter of where they finish in the District A-5 standings. The top two teams in each district host a first round playoff game.Third and fourth place teams are on the road.Focus will be stressed all week this week at practice since it’s Homecoming week and distractions are everywhere. Two tough games remain on the Bucs’ schedule -- Chelsea at 7 p.m. this Friday and Woodland at 7 p.m. Nov. 4. Both games are at Buc stadium. The Green Dragons are “very tough,” Head Coach Mike Kirtley said this week. “They remind me of Pawnee. It’ll be extremely hard to run and to stop the run. Their front four are awesome. Their offensive and defensive linemen are big and tough.”Chelsea is 6-2 on the year, beating Nowatas 50-20, Caney Valley 46-8, Morrison 28-12, Chouteau 28-0 and Pawnee 30-14. They’ve lost to Woodland 14-29 and Hominy 0-36.Defensively, Chelsea will be in a 4-4 multiple, sometimes a 4-2-5 and offensively, they’ll run a power spread like Hominy. “They have a good quarterback as well,” Kirtley said.On the 21-27 loss to Hominy last Friday night, Kirtley said “They just lined up and whipped us. We couldn’t stop them. We tried something new defensively and we didn’t play as aggressive as we should have. That’s on me. Our offense played well enough to win.”
