These two teams were about as evenly matched as a playoff contest can be.Unfortunately for the Tonkawa Bucs, it was Morrison’s night and the Wildcats posted a 12-0 win.Thus it ended Tonkawa’s run into the the Class A state championship, which would have been their eighth. The Bucs finished with 9 wins and 3 losses.Morrison will play top-ranked Ringling 7 p.m. this Friday at Western Heights in Oklahoma City. They will carry a 10-3 record into the semi-finals against an unbeaten 12-0 Ringling.The Bucs had their chances, but just couldn’t capitalize on the opportunities.The Wildcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead on their first drive of the night in the first quarter, but didn’t score again until late in the game.Tonkawa’s Jake Randall and Chazz slavens both intercepted passes in the first half. The Bucs punted from deep in their own territory after the Randall pass.The Slavens pass gave the ball to the Bucs at their own 44. They managed to get as deep as the Wildcat 25 before turning it over on downs.The score at intermission was 6-0 and that’s what it remained as both teams traded punts in the third.Early in the fourth quarter, Tonkawa mounted a drive that started at their own 23 and ended at the Wildcat 9. It was set up by a 60 yard run by tailback Roman Chandler, which set the Bucs up with a first and ten at the 21.The junior tailback finished with 81 yards on 10 carries.The Bucs had first and goal at the 10 after a short run by Chandler and a 9 yard pass play from Ryan Morgan to Kai Day.On first down, Chandler picked up one yard, but three straight passes fell incomplete.Morrison took over at their own 9 and managed to drive the length of the field, scoring on a six yard quarterback keeper with 3:13 left in the game.Tonkawa took over at their own 40 after the ensuing kickoff.Quarterback Morgan got hot and completed 6 of 7 passes -- two to Day for 10 and 4 yards, one to Jaidyn Guzman for 11 and three to Jake Randall of 9, 9 and 8 yards.The end result was a first and goal at the Morrison 9, but the first down throw was intercepted at the 1:53 mark of the final quarter and Morrison kneeled three straight times to run out the clock on Tonkawa’s season.Morgan finished ...
