Three members of the 2019 Tonkawa Buc football team have been honored by the District A-5 coaches with top awards.
All three are seniors and were 33-14 in their high school careers -- 7-4 in 2016 and 2017, 14-1 in 2018 and 5-5 in 2019.
Named to the awards were the following:
Free Safety of the year -- Parker Miller.
Outside Linebacker of the year -- Peyton Day.
Noseguard of the year -- austin Sharp.
Two other seniors were listed on the honorable mention all-district team -- defensive end Joby
Jauregui and tight end Cody Morgan. Leaders in season statistics were also announced this week.

Tristan Burdick led in rushing and scoring. He rushed for 1058 yards on 183 carries and was 40-87-9 passing for another 629 yards. He rushed for 10 touchdowns and threw for another 7. The top receiver was Miller with 21 catches for 368 yards.
The top kickoff returner was Kai Day with 370 yards on 12 returns, one of 84 yards for a touchdown. Brendan Ochoa punted 28 times for a 37 yard average. Place kicker Carson Robinson converted on PAT’s 10 times.
Miller led in tackles with 103, with Peyton Day close at 88, Kai day and Noah Campbell at 79.
Brothers Peyton and Kai Day led in tackles behind the line of scrimmage with 25 each.
Miller led in pass thefts with six interceptions. Jake Randall had three.
Joby Jauregui led in pass hurries with 11.
Kai day also led in fumbles recovered at five, while Peyton day led in fumbles caused at four, covering three. Peyton Day also led in blocked kicks with two while Sharp and Morgan each had one.
The good news: Kai Day, Ochoa, Campbell and Randall are all sophomores. Burdick and Robinson are juniors.
A total of 14 starters will return for the 2020 season -- 7 on each side of the ball.
Tonkawa will have to wait until Jan. 15 to see what district next year’s Bucs will land in for the
2020 season, but the future looks bright. An undefeated eighth grade class will join the varsity as freshmen next year.
