Tonkawa Buc football begins the 2019 season this week, Head Coach Mike Kirtley announced this week.
Prospects will check out equipment at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the locker room.
Practice starts Monday, Aug. 12, with two-a-days at 6:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. until school starts Thursday, Aug. 15. Then practice will be after school each day.
The first scrimmage will be Thursday or Friday, Aug. 22-23, at 6 p.m. on Buc field with Oklahoma Union and Perry.
The 2019 season begins Friday, Aug. 30, at Buc stadium vs. Blackwell here at 7 p.m.
Tonkawa is defending Class A state champions as well as District A-5 which includes Drumright, Pawnee, Pawhuska, Woodland, Morrison, Barnsdall and Hominy.
Langston-Hughes has dropped out of football this year, so the Scholars will not be in District A-5. It will be an eight team district with Tonkawa.
Replacing L-H on the Buc schedule will be Tulsa NOAH on Friday, Sept. 13. The Bucs will play at their place and will join Blackwell Aug. 30, at Newkirk Sept. 6 as non-district contests. The district schedule will begin on Sept. 20 with Drumright here for Homecoming.

In pre-season ratings by the “Oklahoma Pigskin Preview,” the Bucs are ranked tenth behind cashion, Rejoice Christian, Thomas, Stroud, Minco, Frederick, Boone-Apache, Pawhuska and Gore.
The Bucs are being picked to finish behind Pawhuska in the race for the A-5 crown with Pawnee, Morrison and Hominy close behind.
