Tonkawa’s football Bucs will remain in Class A for the next two years, according to tentative enrollment figures released by the OSSAA this week.
Rejoice Christian is the largest Class A school. The Bucs are 21st with an average daily membership in high school of 186.53 students.
There are 65 Class A football playing schools.
Pawhuska (7), Pawnee (34), Morrison (39), Hominy (50) and Woodland (64) also remain in Class A. Cashion (28) and ring-ling (63) play for the Class A state championship for 2019 this Saturday.
District lineups for the 2020-21 seasons won’t be announced until Jan. 15 by the OSSAA.
Drumright and Barnsdall drop down to Class B and will play 8 man the next two years. Garber also remains in Class B.
Medford and DCLA remain in Class C eight man.
Ponca City will continue to compete in Class 6A-II.
Blackwell will move from Class 3A to Class 2A the next two years and will join Chisholm, Perry, Newkirk, Hennessey and Luther. Christian Heritage, who Tonkawa played for the 2018 Class A state title, moves from Class A to Class 2A the next two years.
The breakdown of classes for football follows:
Class 6A, division one -- Largest 16 football playing schools.
Class 6A, division two -- Next largest 16 football playing schools.
Class 5A, 4A, 3A -- Next largest 32 football playing schools.
Class 2A -- Next largest 64 football playing schools.
Class A -- Remaining 11-man football playing schools.
Class B and C -- The remaining eight-man football playing schools to total 80 make up Class B, the smallest 32 eight-man football playing schools make up Class C.
