Last year, the Blackwell Flycatchers took to the historic Morgan Field in Blackwell. The Blackwell Flycatchers are a Pecos League baseball team. The Pecos League is an independent baseball league that offers young men out of college the opportunity to increase their skills, and improve their baseball stats in hopes of being called up to the play in leagues that offer a chance to play in the MLB.Players for the Flycatchers try out in Houston, Texas in the spring or in Blackwell in May to become a team member. They must pay for their own food, transportation to and from games, and a hotel to stay in at home if they do not have a host family. The league pays for player’s hotel rooms when they are at away games.The team has several upcoming events giving sports fans the chance to watch the team in action and meet the players. The following are the events coming up in June and July: - Youth Group, Sunday School, and Church Group Night on Sunday, June 30 at 6:30 pm. Groups will receive the group discount rate on tickets - 4th of July game on Thursday, July 4 at 6:30 pm. Veterans and active service men and women receive free admission into the game.- Teachers Night on Wednesday, July 24 at 6:30 pm. All teachers receive free admission.
