Four Tonkawa Buc football seniors and six juniors garners District A-3 honors from league coaches.
Annual football awards will be presented at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, at the high school cafeteria.
Senior Tristan Burdick was named MVP on Offense.
Player of the year by position from Tonkawa included the following:
Defensive Lineman of the Year -- Junior Dante Mendoza.
Outside Linebacker of the Year -- Senior Clay Massey
Punter of the year -- Junior Brendan Ochoa.
Other Tonkawa all-district selections follow:
O-line -- Junior Miccael Brown.
D-line -- Junior Jake Morgan
Linebacker -- Noah Campbell.
Secondary -- Senior Nathan Anderson and Junior Jake Randall
Kicker -- Senior Carson Robinson.
The Bucs were 9-3 for the year in 2020, getting to the third round of the Class A playoffs. Two of their three losses were to the Class A state finalists -- Cashion and Thomas.
Burdick’s MVP stats are detailed in the graphic above. Massey, a senior, started both ways for Tonkawa in 11 games.
Massey, a senior, started both ways for Tonkawa in 11 games. He suffered a season ending injury in the 11th game. Massey had 76 tackles, 12 behind the lione of scrimmage. He also had two near interceptions and 10 pass hurries. Massey covered one fumble and caused one. He also blocked two kicks.
Mendoza, a junior, started both ways for the Bucs this season. He had 44 tackles, 17 behind the line of scrimmage. Mendoza also tipped two passes and hurried the passer 16 times. He recovered two fumbles and caused one.
