Tonkawa Public Schools will return to classes Thursday, Aug. 13. Enrollment for all grades will be next Tuesday, July 28, at the Event Center between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Students will be offered a choice between virtual and traditional learning. Rules and regulations concerning the re-opening were to be formally approved at a special meeting of the Board of Education noon Wednesday, July 22.

Tonkawa Public Schools Return to Learn
Tonkawa Public Schools is committed to providing a safe environment for all students, teachers, and staff. Protocol in place due to Covid-19 is in accordance with the CDC, Oklahoma State Department of Education, and the Kay County Health Department Guidelines. The Return to Learn Plan is an active document which is subject to change due to the nature of this pandemic. This plan has been created by school personnel, parents, first responders, and community leaders.
District
The district has taken action steps to insure buildings are prepared for the return of students in this time of pandemic. The following have been implemented.
1. Installation of over 100 additional hand sanitizing stations
2. Purchase of three electrostatic sprayers for sanitizing
3. Hiring additional janitorial staff
4. Purchase of thermoscan thermometers
The Tonkawa Casino and Tonkawa Tribe are assisting in the purchase of:
1. Walkthrough Thermoscan Temperature Stations
2. Thermoscan thermometers for all busses and coaches.
3. Disposable face masks
4. Disposable cups
5. Battery operated toilets, faucets, and paper towel dispensers
Classes will begin on Thursday, August 13th for the 2020-21 school year. Students will have the choice of two different path ways; traditional or virtual.
Traditional Students and their peers will attend in-person classes, and be taught traditionally by a certified instructor. Students are expected to attend regularly. Students will continue to participate in physical education, music, and counseling classes. Wednesdays will be “Web Based Instruction Day”. All instruction will be done via Google Classroom and Exact Path at school. This will prepare students to work independently at home in the case of school closure. Upon signing a student/parent contract and paying a $25 technology fee, chromebooks and carrying cases will be assigned to all students enrolled in Tonkawa Public Schools Hotspots will be available for households not having access to the internet.
Virtual
Students will receive instruction through Edmentum Web Based Curriculum. Students will progress through the curriculum at home with no teacher intervention. The district will monitor student progress and ensure students are oncourse to complete the curriculum in ...
