Tonkawa resident Gregory James Abello (59), was arrested by Tonkawa Police on Monday, July 12, 2021. Abello was arrested, just outside his residence, on sexually related offenses, at approximately 4:12 p.m.
The Tonkawa Police Department received the initial criminal complaints from an adult female victim in late June. According to Tonkawa Police Sgt. Ryan Potter [Probable Cause Affidavit], Abello is alleged to have committed these sexually based offenses between 2004 and 2011. Sgt. Potter further reported that some of these offenses are alleged to have occurred when the victim was under the age of 18.
Tonkawa Police coordinated with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services-Child Welfare Division prior to and after Abello’s arrest. Abello had a pistol in his possession at the time of his arrest but was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Kay County Detention Center on the same date. Abello is charged with two felony counts of Sexual Battery and one felony count of Rape by Instrumentation.
On Tuesday, Abello appeared before Judge Wilkie and bond was set at $50,000.00 and was ordered to have no contact with the victim. Abello is scheduled for Initial Appearance, in Kay County District Court, on Friday, July 23, 2021.
Tonkawa Police Department report that this is an ongoing investigation.
Tonkawa Police Department urges anyone who has information about this investigation or any other crime to contact the Tonkawa Police Department at (580) 628-2516. All persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
