Rainfall in the Tonkawa area during the 1973 year was the greatest on record and nearly double the annual moisture average for a year, a check on figures with the Arkansas Louisiana Gas Co. revealed today.In 1973 a total of 56.88 inches of moisture was measured here. Average age for the nine years preceding was 29.98 inches per year.A year ago, through the first five months of the year through May, 24.32 inches of moisture had fallen. Yearly total to date is 22.27 inches.City Sales Tax Nets City Check For $6,627.76 City sales tax receipts continue to set records in Oklahoma and this month’s check from the Oklahoma Tax Commission to the city of Tonkawa was no exception. The city’s share received this month was $6,627.76 as compared to $4,848.41 received for the same month a year ago.Ponca City received a check for $63,794.26 as compared to $51,410.69 a year ago. Blackwell’s share was $17,075.63 against $12,108.97 and Newkirk, $4,566.40 against $3,193.89.The Commission distributed $6,788,705 in city sales tax receipts to 323 cities and towns this month. Only previous payout topping this month’s total came last February when 315 municipalities shared $7.8 million from December business, said S. W. Hampton, sales tax director.The near-record June allocation came from local sales tax collections on business done in April and remitted to the state Tax Commission during May.
