50 years ago, September 19, 1974Bucs Travel To Fairfax For Friday Night Game Standing 1-1 for the season with a win over Shidler and a loss to Perry, the Tonkawa High school Buccaneers travel to Fairfax Friday night to meet the Red Devils who also stand 1-1. The Devils lost their seasonopener to Sperry, 32-13 and then won over Cleveland last week 22-12.Coach Jim Minor said Fairfax looks big and has lots of speed and runs wide a lot. He said the team looks better than Perry, which defeated the Bucs 49-6 last Friday night. The coach said starting senior left tackle Riley Shaull is out for the season after suffering a broken leg in the Perry game. His position will be filled either by Brent Bradford, 170 pound junior of Roger Conaghan, 155 pound junior.Minor said injuries and illness have slowed down practice this week. He said junior lineman Steve McKnight is still hampered with an injured knee and unable to practice and starting fullback Gordon Sanders was sick the first two days of the week and starter John Unruh was sick and missed practice on Tuesday.Probable starting lineup Friday night at Fairfax will be Curtis Muegge and Jerry Ailey, ends; Bradford or Conaghan and Tom Allen, tackles; Jay Laramy and Rusty Storm, guards; Frank Klufa, center; Kevin Steichen, quarterback; John Unruh and Dennis Ailey, halfbacks and Gordon Sanders, fullback.
