50 years ago, February 7, 1974Gil Cody Wilson Is Nominated For Air Force AcademyATonkawa High school senior, Cody Wilson 636 Meadow Lane, son of Mr. and Mrs. Warren A. Wilson, was one of nine young Oklahomans nominated for an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy by Congressman Happy Camp last Thursday. The academy will be responsible for selecting the appointee from the list of nominees. Camp has one vacancy to the academy for this year’s entering class. The candidate receiving the appointment will enter in June.“It is very heartening to know that these young men have retained their faith in-our country in these pressing time by their interest in pursuing a career in the military,” Camp said, “and we all can be proud of them for their desire to serve our nation.”Wilson, 17, is a member of the basketball team and has been named Basketball Royalty, and has taken part in football, baseball and track at the High school. He is active in music and sings in the mixed chorus, mixed ensemble, boys glee club and the choir at the First Christian church. He has been president of the Christian Youth Fellowship, is a junior deacon at his church, has served as worship leader and is a member of the Lay Witness Mission. He has been on the honor roll throughout his high school career and works part time during school and summers on the farm for Neil Martin.A Ponca City youth was named by Camp as a nominee for the U.S. Naval Academy. Highland.23 Tonkawans Get Summonses For Jury Duty Summonses were sent out last week to 210 Kay county residents, including 23 Tonkawans, whose names were drawn for possible duty during the February jury term of District Court.
