With this issue, The Tonkawa News begins the 127th year of publication.
And it has had but six owners during the past 118 years -- two of them for 88 years between them.
The publishing roll of honor follows:
1894-1900 -- Tom Fry.
1900--1903 -- Frank Means.
1903-1949 -- Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Whinery.
1949-1951 -- Mr. and Mrs. George Schriver.
1951-1993 -- Francis and Gloria Langdon.
1993 - 2010 -- H. Lyle Becker.
2010 - 2018 -- Tom Muchmore.
2018-present -- Kay County Media
The first newspaper was the weekly Tonkawa Chief, published in 1894 by Chief Publishing Company and founded by Tom Fry. Frank Means bought the paper in 1900 and changed the name of the paper to The Tonkawa News.
Members of the present staff include Janel Geiser, receptionist; Lyle Becker, editor; and many contributing columnists, writers and photographers.
