While many were sleeping in on the last day of fall break, the Tonkawa High School Academic Team was showing up BIG for District play.Tonkawa faced Perry in round one where Captain AJ Harmon led the team with 50 individual points to a victory; the final score was Tonkawa 170 vs Perry 110.Then, they faced Cashion for a nail-biter. Harmon and Joseph Gundel were the top scorers. The score was tied after the first quarter, and Cashion got the tiebreaker points to put them in the lead. Tonkawa came back strong, and the match ended in their favor with the final score of Tonkawa 150 vs Cashion 140.Their last game pitted them against Hennessey. Senior Telmo Alvarez-Macias and Gundel were tied for the leading scorer. Tonkawa was on fire in the 4th quarter and answered all 10 questions under 60 seconds during the speed round. They came out on top, once again, with a final score of Tonkawa 180 vs Hennessey 80.Tonkawa left Cashion winning the District Tournament. They will return to Cashion for Regionals on November 16th.
