Tonkawa Public School educators recently received $10,163.40 from The Tonkawa Education Foundation in the form of classroom grants. Tonkawa teachers from elementary, middle and high school applied for the grants at the beginning of the school year. The requested materials enhance and reinforce learning in the classroom but cannot be funded through public allocations. Since most materials are not consumable, they are used in succeeding years. Since its establishment in 2000, TEF has given nearly $108,000 to the Tonkawa Public school system through 342 teacher-requested grants. The 2019/2020 grants exceed last year’s requests by more than $1500.
The sole purpose of the Foundation is to support the students of the Tonkawa Public Schools. The Foundation’s initial goal of raising a corpus of $500,000 to be invested has been reached, but the growing number of requests by Tonkawa teachers indicates a need for raising the goal. The Grant funding comes from a mix of interest bearing accounts funded by donations. Individual donations, various fundraisers, memorials, business campaigns, and employer withdrawals continue to help grow the balance of this endowment fund. Endowment partners for 2019/2020 include The Clinton Foundation in recognition of the Character Counts program conducted at schools by volunteers, Caughlin Brothers LLC, Kay Electric Cooperative, Grimsley’s Inc., Dale and Lori Evans, Tim and Sandra Caughlin, Hembree and Hodgson Construction LLC, Walmart, Schatz Publishing Group, Modern Woodmen, Brad Purdy, Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, Tucker Plumbing, M4 Construction LLC, Jodi Cline, Kurt and Sarah Campbell, Tyson Jackson Agency Inc., and Glen W. Peel Foundation. TEF will soon be contacting Tonkawa area businesses during the yearly business campaign. Individual donations can also be given through Pay Pal and Smile. Amazon.
The TEF board is formed by volunteers from the Tonkawa community. Current trustees include Lori Evans, President; Janine Roth, Secretary; Sandra Caughlin, Treasurer; Irene Ackerson, Ginger Hunter, Braden Lampe, Beverly Smith, Ricardo Soto and Lori Simpson, Ex-Officio member. Contact any trustee if you would like to become involved.
