The Tonkawa Garden Club again walked away with honors at the Kay County Fair.Mrs. Joe Yowell, council president of the Tonkawa Garden Club, was the Grand Prize Winner in the Plants and Flower Division: The Hoe and Hope Unit (Mrs. Jim Terbush president), was the Grand Prize winner for the club competition: The Madonna Lily Unit (Mrs. Ruth Robison, president) was the winner of the Reserve Grand Prize for club competition; the Peace Rose Unit (Mrs. George Barnhill, president), won first place for a collection of nine different arrangements (nine kinds of flowers) exhibited by one club or organization; and the Madonna Lily unit (Mrs. Robison, president) won second place in the same category.Garden Club members who won blue ribbons were: Cut Flowers: Asters, China, Marilyn James. Boston Fern, Mrs. Dick Irby.Man Pinned In Car 12 ½ Hours In Chikaskia RiverRichard Dewayne Nichols, 25, Wichita, spent a long night in his overturned 1964 Plymouth 2 door in the Chikaskia river Monday night when he was trapped in the car with barely enough room to breathe above the water.He was discovered in the river three miles south and 27 miles east of Tonkawa by Russell Smith, who lives nearby and Tonkawa businessman Delbert Smith, when the pair went to investigate to see why the bridge railing on the west approach to the bridge was broken. They soon discovered Nichols car and heard his cries for help. The pair summoned aid and then went into the river to get Nichols out of the vehicle.The accident was investigated by OHP Trooper L. W.
