Kiwanis Hear Smiecinski
Individual freedom is the thing that makes America great.
These are the words of C. T. Smiecinski, self styled Polish refugee who is vice-president and chief engineer of Williams Machine
Co. here, as he spoke to members of the Kiwanis club at their noon luncheon Wednesday in Hotel Tonkawa.
Smiecinski told how much the government of his native Poland resembled that of the United States before World War II. It was a country “between two dictatorships.” Russia on the east and Germany on the west, he said. He told how the country capsized from infiltration, pointing out that we have a similar danger in the U. S. today.
Smiecinski served as an officer in the Polish army and was captured by the Germans when they overran Poland. He related his experiences in concentration camps and German factories while a prisoner. Hitler and Mussolini, he said, were impressive public speakers and the Nazi chief brought his German audiences “to a state of frenzy” when he addressed them.
President Gilbert Humphries was incharge of the program and introduced the speaker. Twenty-six members and two guests, Bob
Beames of Brigham, Utah, and Guy Rance, Tonkawa, were present.
