City Teachers Attend A & M
Four Tonkawa teachers were among 200 Oklahoma instructors who attended a five-day reading workshop last week at Oklahoma
A & M college.
They are Miss Betty Barclay, Miss Helen Furber, Mrs. Mildred
Humphries and Mrs. W. R. King.
The workshop offered intensive study of reading techniques and problems pertaining to elementary and secondary school reading courses.
City Reached Peak Level Under Adair
The government and administration of the city of Tonkawa during the three years under the management of Roy Adair has reached a level of efficiency unparalleled in this city’s history and has set an example that speaks loudly for the city manager form as one of the most desirable types of government.
Under City Manager Adair’s supervision, city government has been streamlined, a multitude of civic improvements have been made and operation costs of the city sharply reduced. At the same time, city employee’s salaries have been raised and the available cash on hand in the city’s general fund tripled.
How did he do it?
Adair is the first to point out that, while he believes the city manager form of government enables more efficient and economical operations, the record could not have been accomplished “without the cooperation of the city council, city employees and businessmen and citizens of Tonkawa.”
