50 years ago, July 25, 1974Chamber Directors Look Over New Airport Following their noon luncheon meeting Tuesday, Chamber of Commerce directors drove to the Blackwell-Tonkawa Airport to inspect the new facility. The officers who went were Max Welch, president, Calvin Crumrine, Gilbert Humphries, Hubert L. McIntyre, Bill Huston, Mrs. Pauline Fuller and Loy Reisch, chamber manager and member of the airport trust authority.City Residential Areas To Get Fogger TreatmentThe city park department has been testing a new insecticide fogger for the past ten days and is now preparing to utilize it in the residential areas of the city, Frank S. Hamand, city manager, said today.Already fogged has been the city dump, the POW Camp and the Ray See park area with a significant reduction in insect population in the treated areas. Hamand said the insecticide used is a formula approved by the Environmental Protection Agency and is non-toxic and is not harmful to humans; pets, livestock or wildlife.The city manager said plans call for fogging the city over a three-day period beginning Tuesday, July 30, and finishing on August 1. The work will be done in the early morning hours, possibly between 5:00 and 7:00 a.m. to cause as little inconvenience as possible.The fogger equipment issues a sound similar to that of an air boat, but is not extremely loud, so that it should not disturb people sleeping.
