NOJC to Add Class at Noon
To meet the expanding needs of Northern Oklahoma Junior college, a class period will be be held during the noon hour beginning next fall, Howard R. Harold, dean of the college, announced today.
A larger curriculum and an increasing number of students who work and attend school only half a day have made the additional class hour necessary, Harold said.
Now at work on next fall’s schedule, the dean is finding good use for the five more periods that have been added for those students who come to school either in the morning or afternoon. For instance, a number of Blackwell smelter workers get off work at
10 a.m. and can begin next year’s classes at noon.
The new class hour will make scheduling more flexible by adding 14 percent more class time to each day. Every department will have at least one 12 o’clock class, Harold said.
Luncheon in Threlkheld hall will be served during both the 11 a.m. and 12 o’clock hours.
Tonkawa Kids To Hunt Eggs
Hundreds of Tonkawa area youngsters will get a chance at candy eggs and special treats Friday afternoon when the American Legion and Auxiliary hold their fifth annual Easter egg hunt.
The hunt will start at 4 p.m. at the Maverick athletic field, according to Hollis McGinness, chairman of the event. Although local schools will be dismissed at 2:30 p.m., McGinness, asked children not to come to the hunt area before 3:45 p.m.
From 3,000 to 3,600 candy eggs will be hidden, with a record number of 1.150 prizes offered by Tonkawa merchants to be among them.
There will be two areas for the hunt. Pre-school children will look for the colored eggs on the football field, while grade school students will search in the area northwest of the field.
The hunts are open to all children in Tonkawa and surrounding rural areas from pre-school age through the sixth grade. McGinness issued a special invitation to rural school students of this area.
Two golden eggs, worth $2.50 each will be hidden. One egg will be given by the Legion and hidden in the pre-school children hunt area and the other donated by the Auxiliary and put in the grade school area.
