Two teachers announced their retirement at Monday night’s meeting of the Tonkawa Board of Education.
Terry Guthrie will be retiring after 29 years at Tonkawa Elementary School. Kurt Kirtley is retiring after 22 years at Tonkawa, 35 years total teaching.
Both will be effective at the end of the current school year. Letters were noted by the board and approved with regret on the recommendation of Superintendent Lori Simpson.
Kirtley’s letter follows:
“I am retiring after the 2020/2021 school year.” Guthrie’s letter follows: “After much thought, I have decided it is time for me to retire.
“After much thought, I have decided it is time for me to retire. Please accept this letter as my official resignation from my position as fourth grade teacher with Tonkawa Elementary School. My final day of employment will be at the end of this year, May 20, 2021.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed the last 29 years teaching at TES. I want to thank you for giving me this opportunity. It has been as much a pleasure to learn from my students as it was to teach them. To all my colleagues, I love you from the bottom of my heart! It has been an honor working beside you. I will never forget my time at TES. Once a Buc always a Buc!”

In other action, the board:
-- Approved encumbrances totalling $52,609.50 with $20,630.02 from the general fund, $31,525.52 from the building fund and $453.96 from child nutrition.
-- Accepted the offering of Algebra I for high school credit to qualifying eighth grade students.
