Ponca City Arts and Humanities Council is excited to host Native American Storyteller Will Hill, on Tuesday, June 4th at the historic Poncan Theatre, located at 104 E. Grand in Ponca City. The two free all-ages performances will be held at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Doors will open one hour before. Mr. Hill will take the audience on a journey which include stories translated from the original native language and adapted for the stage.
Will Hill is a full-blood Muscogee Indian whose traditional name is Kabitcha Feke Sego. He was raised as a traditional storyteller of the Nogonugojeeh Society (storytelling society) of the Muscogee people. The audience will hear the voices of his ancestors as he shares his own family’s repertoire of stories and folklore, and you will experience the magic of storytelling the Indian way. He believes he is an American Indian storyteller by destiny, not choice. Filled with songs, legends, and language, Will is a one-man show, complete with history and audience participation.
Mr. Hill has performed in over 3,500 venues nationwide since 1990. He was the featured storyteller at Earth Day in Washington D.C. where he brought archival recognition to the state of Oklahoma and the Muscogee-Creek Nation by being the first Native American to perform at the National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C., prior to its opening. Will was chosen by Disney to represent Oklahoma during the State’s Centennial Celebration at Disney World in Orlando, Florida with 31 performances. He has won numerous awards such as the Mocelyn Larkin Cultural Achievement Award, Favorite Indian Performer in the state of Oklahoma and was recognized by the Tulsa City-County Library’s American Indian Resource Center as one of Oklahoma’s Outstanding Native American Playwrights. Will Hill is on the Oklahoma Arts Council Performing Artist Roster as he continues to provide arts and education to schools and communities across the state and the nation.
