city manager explains
The City of Tonkawa continues to deal with flooding issues, City Manager Kirk Henderson explained Tuesday.
The Salt Fork River, at press time, was still about a foot over flood stage at 17.9, Henderson said. Highway 77 south across the river bridge is now open.
The city’s lagoon sewer system is at capacity and that’s why the splash pad at Blinn Park will remain closed.
“We’re trying to avoid adding any more stress to our overloaded lagoon system,” Henderson explained. “Until our lagoon system is more normalized, the splash pad will remain closed.”
Henderson also urged residents to continue to pump water out of basements outside instead of into the sewer system.
All the outbuildings at the city’s animal control center are a total loss. “All water wells east on business Highway 60 are okay and pumping. We’re just dealing with some washouts,” he said.
“We appreciate all the help the citizens have given us with these issues,” Henderson said.
