Jeremiah 29:11 is one of the most popular promises that Christians love. It tells us: “’For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.’” Now, despite the popularity of this verse, there are some who absolutely do not believe this promise. The reason that some reject this verse is because is because they deny the false teaching of the “Health and Prosperity Gospel” that some teach. So because of this heretical teaching some have rejected this promise. Now the question is this: Does God promise us that He HAS A PLAN for us? YES! There are many stories in the Bible where we see God made plans for people. Abraham, Moses, David, Sarah, Esther, Ruth, and New Testament heroes like Peter, and Paul and Philip and Ananias. We are told that God is actively looking for someone to bless. His eyes search the entire earth looking for someone that He can bless (2 Chron. 16:9). And Paul states, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Eph. 2:10). He is saying that God has a plan for your life and He has prepared all this beforehand. The point is: YOU are important to God, you matter, you have value. You are a part of God’s plan. Now in Jeremiah’s time this promise was directed towards the Israelites. They needed to know that God had a plan. It wasn’t exactly what they wanted to hear, but He was telling them they had a future, they had hope.So when we read this, we also need to realize that what God has in mind for us, is not necessarily what we may want. But that’s okay, because God’s plan will be the best for our lives; because His plan for you is for you to have a future and a hope. Now there is one very important point. While God has a plan for your life you don’t have to accept it. In fact, what’s interesting about II Chronicles 16:9 says “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.” In other words, God is looking to bless and strengthen people who WANT His will in ...
