Christians are in a war against those who do not believe or value God’s Word. While many do not believe this or simply ignore this battle, it is very real and the fate of our country is at stake.
We are constantly bombarded by TV and the mass media with sexual values and lifestyles that are 180 degrees away from God’s instructions and His values. Peter and John were commanded by Jewish officials “not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus” (Acts 4:18). Their response needs to be echoed from roof tops across America as the world’s values continue to encroach on God’s Word. “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard” (Acts 4:20, emp. added).
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites…will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God (1 Corinthians 6:9-11).
California has attempted to pass a law for the past several years that would make it wrong for someone to teach against homosexuality or counsel some to change from being a homosexual. However, the values behind this bill are directly against Scripture. While it has not passed, it is alarming to see how many people supported these values and how this is spreading across our country.
But before we get too far off track, picking on one sin is to miss the point. Look at the list that Paul includes in Romans 1: “all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful” (Rom. 1:29-31). Paul was not making the exhaustive list of all sins, but was pointing out that we have all sinned and as he said later “we have fallen short of God’s glory” (Rom. 3:28).
As Paul then advised, we must repent and we should long for God’s glory and the eternal life He has promised (Rom. 2:5-7). It is God’s grace that provides salvation, but we must believe.
