Tonkawa,Disciples all over the world are fresh off of celebrating the bodily resurrection of Jesus. With that in mind, I’d like to take the next five weeks to look at what exactly that event meant and how we should understand it today. In the first week I explained that the apostles understood Jesus’ resurrection as a confirmation that Gpod’s promise to restore all things at the Day of the Lord would come true.In this week’s installment, I’ll argue that second, Jesus’ resurrection confirms Jesus as God’s Messiah and confirms that all of God’s promises to the family Israel will indeed come to pass.In Acts 2, after Peter is filled with the Holy Spirit, he stands up and says:[Jesus]...being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne (the throne of David, reserved for the king of Israel), he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the [Messiah]...In these few lines, Peter is restating to the people the hope of God’s coming Messiah.A descendant of Eve will “crush” the serpent’s “head (Gen. 3:15).” A descendant of Abraham will “possess the gates of His enemies (Gen. 22:17)”, rule, and have the “obedience of all the peoples (Gen. 49:10).”And a descendant of David, who will be called God’s “son”, will have a “Kingdom”, a “house”, and a “throne” (2 Sam. 7) and will reign as God’s king on “Zion” that “holy hill (Ps. 2/110).”Not only does the resurrection confirm Jesus as the King of Israel, it also affirms Israel and God’s appointed family meant to bless all the nations of the earth, recalling the words of Isaiah 24, “The LORD Almighty will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and before its elders—with great glory.”Jesus’ words in Matthew 19 were not in jest.“Truly I tell you, in the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne (In Jerusalem) , you who have followed me (12 righteous and repentant Israelites) will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel”These are the claims made by the law, prophets, and Jesus himself. And Peter proclaims these things are true. Why?Because God raised Jesus from the dead.Until He Comes,Josh Reese, Christian Life Church ...
