In Chapter 3 of the Book of Exodus, in the Holy Bible, is the wonderful story of Moses meeting God at a “Burning Bush” in the wilderness.
One day as Moses was shepherding his father-in-law’s sheep, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush and though the bush was burning, it was not consumed. So Moses turned aside to see why, and as he did, God called to him by name, “Moses,” not seeing anyone, he replied, “Here I am.” And God said, “Do not come near; put off your shoes from your feet, for the place you are standing is holy ground. “I am God, the God of your father, and I want you to go back and bring my people out of Egypt and lead them to a new land of their own which I will give to them.” Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God, but he was obedient and did just as God directed him, delivering Israel from Egypt and teaching them how to live and worship God.
Yes, Moses didn’t realize he was on “Holy Ground,” but neither did the disciples of Jesus when they walked and talked with Him. Perhaps Peter, James and John, Jesus’ disciples, came close to realizing it when they were with Jesus on the mountain and Jesus was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as light.
And then Moses and Elijah appeared talking with Jesus. They were in awe, especially when a voice from Heaven said, “This is my beloved Son; listen to Him.”
They remembered that day for the rest of their lives, for they knew they had been with Jesus on holy ground. I hope you have “Holy Ground”, too, when you walk and talk with Jesus.
